Amazon Fresh.. Top 8 things you should know

Top 8 things to know about Amazon Fresh

Think technology can be amazing and if anyone knows how to use it, Amazon sure does. That shows clearly in the Amazon Fresh store. We had an Amazon Fresh store open just recently and it was surrounded in tech. I had an idea before we got there of what the store was going to be like and I have to say, I was wrong.  I thought it was going to be devoid of people, strangely stocked and limited but that is not the case. Have are the top 8 things you should know.

Amazon Fresh does have people along with Alexa

On opening day, the Amazon fresh store was filled with more than the usual amount of associates. We did see many stockers, an good amount of managers, people at the deli, fresh food and butcher areas. I was under the impression that the store would not have many associates except for the stockers and a manage, but I was wrong. On checkout we did ask if there were going to be people normally in the store and were told yes. There are even cashiers there as well as the self checkout.  There are even a few Alexa stations that you can ask for something if a person is not available. The self checkout is a cool thing to do. Pick up an item and it gets added to your virtual cart and paid for when you self check out, with your app. That made shopping more fun and check out was also enjoyable. We did have a little problem using one of the checkout gates but moving over to the next gate it worked without a problem. The associate was quick to say they were going to check on that gate right away.

Amazon Fresh has cameras just about everywhere

I have seen commercials before that showed people putting an item in a cart and the cart recorded the purchase. That technology is not being used at this store. There are cameras located throughout the store and there are so many you cannot miss them. The system watches what you put in your cart or take out of it keeping a record of your purchases. The one advantage of this is you can bag as you go. That is another thing to remember, bring your own bags but if you forget, you can purchase them there. You can also load up your cart and then bag at your car, its your choice.

Amazon Fresh items are similar to Whole foods

We know that places like ShopRite, Giant and Acme have their home brand and so does Amazon. They have a generic brand called Aplenty and some of the brands from Whole Foods are also available. Not every item has a generic but is the same at the other grocery stores as well.

Amazon Fresh has hot and ready food

They have an area that you could get a slice of pizza, yes Pizza. You can get a whole pie if you want. They had a section that was not ready or stocked yet but it will be for self service. You can get some pasta, meatballs, BBQ chicken and salad. They had coffee on the side as well. Before you leave, there is even a section that you can sit at and eat what you just purchased if you want to.

Amazon Fresh has Coupons and Weekly Deals

On the first day, we went with the wonder of what we would find and did not really prepare. Normally before we go food shopping we prepare by looking at any circulars, store app specials, online coupons and general paper coupons. When we got there, Amazon did provide use with a 10 dollar coupon which was great. Amazon does offer online coupons that you can use, just like the other grocery stores, your savings will vary on the items you chose.

Amazon Fresh items are mostly bought for individually.

On our shopping list was bananas. I thought you would buy them by the pound but that's not how they sell them. Items like that are bought by the bunch or by the item. One banana was 15 cent, a bunch was something like 2.19 or something like that. I am use to picking a bunch and paying by the pound so that was kind of weird. The same kind of idea goes for most of the meat. We saw ground beef already separated by almost the exact pound. They did have a deli, meat and seafood area but we did not try it this time. They appear to sell by your preferred amount but I am not sure.

Amazon Fresh has Amazon Secure Lockers

It's not just a grocery store, it can be your package pickup stop too. You can order items from Amazon and have them delivered to the store. There is a section that has lockers and an actual person there that can help you with returns. Each store may have different hours or requirements so check to see if that is an option when you check out online or plan a return. This sure is a great option and allows you to get two things done at the same place without going to two different stores.

Amazon Fresh Does Not Require a Prime Membership

Amazon Fresh is not like a box store where you need a membership. You can enter and pay cash, by credit or through the app. You don't need the app nor to you need an Amazon Prime membership to by or enter, but having the Prime Membership can help. There are different items that could be at a discount for Prime Members and for certain departments it rotates amongst different items.

Amazon Fresh is open to everyone. The store is advanced for purchases and check out but it is still a grocery store with some added benefits. It might be a change to order somethings by item count instead of by the pound, just something that will take some getting use to.  I know the next time I have to order something, I might just select the onsite lockers and pick up a cheesecake or cookies on the way out and enjoy the quick check out. Hopefully when you get one close to you to try, you enjoy the experience too.

ECHO 56V Blower.. More than I expected

EGO 56 Volt Blower

Hi My Geekers / DIYers,

Cutting grass can be fun, therapeutic, relaxing, entertaining and tiring at times.Yes, I felt each one of those time in and time out. I love being outside but I don't want to be a sweaty mess each time I take care of the grass. I started with a Toro Mower and moved up to a CubCadet ride-on and it has cut my time down considerably. I always try to cut in some kind of pattern. Some times its circles, sometimes straight lines and sometimes diagonals. Each cut creates clippings that become scattered and can find their way into spaces that are tough to clean up by hand and broom.. but much easier with a blower,.

I have been using a Toro plug in blower for a while now. The Toro blower has not let me down. Each time I have tried to use it, it has worked and cleaned up as expected. The only problem that I have with the Toro plug in has been that cord. I started with a 50 foot cord, than a 75 foot card - the dog chewed up that one and my last cord is a 100 ft long. When i bought the plug in blower, i knew i was not going to have an unlimited, unrestricted use but that cord just seems to get in the way alot. I plug it in, and tend to walk to my farthest point and work my way back from there. That means getting around the pole, around the short wall, around the car and over the fence. It gets tiresome at times. I finally decided to update to a newer blow and thought which one would better benefit me. It was either Gas or battery and I decided on battery.

I thought of Ryobi, Greenworks, Lynx and EGO blowers. In the end I went with the EGO. The EGO is 56 volt, under eight pounds, brush-less and has a decent reaching funnel tube. I tried the weight of the others and I was not impressed. One was awkward to hold, another was heavy and two were comfortable to hold. The Lynx and the EGO were the comfortable ones. I was impressed with both units. Each had a long reach, was brush-less and powerful and close in cost. I actually tried to purchase the Lynx but the discount i was trying to use could not be applied to the Lynx unit. The Lynx unit also would have cost more including the warranty, that needed to be purchased at an extra cost. The EGO had dropped in price and I could use gift card i had. The EGO has a warranty that is longer and did not require an extra purchase. The two blowers were also of different voltage as well, the Lynx is 40v but the EGO is 56v. I ended up purchasing the EGO 56v blower and I do not regret it.

The EGO came in two pieces, included a battery and a battery charger.. Some think that it should have come with a shoulder strap and a tighter funnel tip.  I looked quickly over the instructions and was able to put it together and start charging the battery in 3 minutes. The battery already comes with a charge and was 100 percent in no time. As you can see from the picture, it is also Labrador approved.

I have used it many times so far and I love it. No cord and no gas is great. I used it to clean up on the patio, driveway and side walk with no problem. It doesn't start right up, it winds up in 1-2 seconds and delivers a constant stream of air. There is a wind/volume control on the top front. The low and high settings are variable. On the patio is use low and driveway almost high. All the clippings moved with out a issue. Just take care of how you old it. I was used to holding it  like my plug in but each time and puled the trigger accidentally but that only took a few unexpected starts to kind of get used to holding it. As I was clearing the driveway I accidentally hit the turbo button, man did that wake it up. it's nice to know that even though the variable speed gives you high there still an extra boost. I am pretty sure that too many triggers of the turbo button will eat up the battery but that's kind of expected with how much volume is pushed out to that funnel tube.

I don't regret getting the EGO over the others, I would buy it sooner knowing what i know now. I really have used it to clear the clippings two times of the street, driveway and sidewalk and cleaning off the mower twice without needing a recharge. I think that is great for the volume it outputs and the size of the battery. I am also appreciative of the balance it has while you hold it. Its not hard on the wrist and not that heavy. I was considering shoulder strap and extra batter when i got it but having used it several times, i don't need them at the moment.

Having the EGO 56 volt is a good choice for trying to finish quickly and having a low maintenance outdoor tool. It will blow you away on your first use on how easy and helpful it can be.

Timely App Overview ~ Timely Andriod App Overview ~ Timely Alarm Clock ~ Timely Mobile App

Hi Geeks and DIYers,

I made a video about the Timely App on Android. Timely is like the default clock app on android but with some other great features. Timely contains a clock, alarms, timer and stopwatch. The functions have multiple features that are more attractive than the default app.

  • The clock display is pleasant to see and can be set to digital or analog.
  • The stopwatch and timer are easy to use and can be accessed quickly.
  • The alarm settings are very flexible. They can be set to multiple days, times, have independent sounds, can be set to wake you slowly and can be used across android devices.
The clock options are one of the main reasons I use this over the default app.

Aukey USB C Adapter Unboxing

Hi Fellow Geeks/DIYers,

I wanted to share with you all my unboxing of the Aukey USB-C adapters. USB 3.0 to USB- C and USB-C to Micro USB 2.0. Two of these adapters aid you in converting micro usb to USB- C. They are small and light weight and help you so you do not have to carry another cable with you. One adapter helps converting a USB 3 to USB-C and it can help you when you transfer data from one usb deceive and to help charge another phone. Having different cables is always a good thing but there are times when an adapter is a better choice. I really try to carry cables with me almost wherever I go. You might need to charge, might need to transfer or be that guy that lends it to someone else. I like the idea of an adapter instead of another cable, one less thing to carry and you have more than one connectivity option. I have a USB micro adapter and USB mini cable and I use them all the time on my desk and these Aukey adapters will go right with them and be carried around as well.

Dimensions and drawings will be coming. I am working on putting them up online in the near future..

DIY WorkBench | Garage Workbench | DIY Garage Bench | Garage Work Table

Hi Fellow Geeks/DIYers,

I made this video on how to make your own DIY Workbench. I needed some kind of table top to work on badly, I only had a small Black and Decker adjustable bench or a set of horses to do everything on. They worked great but some things need to be done on a bigger surface. I also needed a better place to put my tools. The bench is 4 feet wide, 2 feet deep and about 35 inches high. The bench is made out of 2” x 4”s, 2’ x 4’ pre-cut plywood, 1 1/4” screws, 3” screws, 1 1/4” pocket hole screws, rolling wheels and a door handle. The Workbench can be used in the garage, in a shed or just about anywhere. The middle shelf can be set to almost any height, be sure to leave yourself enough room between the top and the bottom pull out. I set it high enough to keep items I use alot and not have to reach too far down for. The bottom pull out is totally optional but is very handy when your trying to get some things way in the back in the bottom that you normally cannot reach. I am glad I made it.

Dark Sky Weather App | Weather on Mobile | Weather on the Web | Weather App

Hi Fellow Geeks/DIYers,

I made this video to show you all the Dark Sky App. Dark Sky is a really good app for seeing weather information that is local or in another location. Dark Sky is very accurate the closer you get to current time. It allows you to see an extended forecast as well as current weather.  The Dark Sky app is available for Android as well as Apple devices. Check out the corresponding app store for current prices. Dark Sky is also available through a browser as well, view-able on many other platforms like PCs, MACS, Chromebooks and more.

I have seen Dark Sky accurately predict the current weather many times. I cant tell you how many times I was mowing the lawn and checked Dark Sky. It said I have 30 min or so before it was going to rain. I would rush to get done and within the time it said, it happen but the mower and I stayed dry.

Streaming Box TV Mount | Apple TV Holder | Roku TV Holder

Hi Fellow Geeks/DIYers,

I created a video review of the Streaming Box TV Mount from ONN. It is made for the Apple TV, Roku and other similar streaming devices. This mount allows you to put those devices on top of your slim TV or monitor without much effort. There are times you need to put it higher than the TV. This little devices helps it stay on top and gives it a clean look. We did this in one of our rooms to not only have it look better but also help it function better. Sitting lower it was harder to have it respond to the remote. With the device higher, it sees that remote each and every time.

Check out my video on youtube.com below. It can also be found at this link

Make sure you double check the manufacture website to make sure it will work with your device if you decide to get one yourself.
